Michelle Wie, the defending champion of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, had to drop out of this years event following the first round of play today. Wie needed to drop out due to back pain.She opened the tournament with a 6 over 78 which included one birdie and 6 bogeys in the events opening day at Lorena Ochoa’s home course of Guadalajara Country Club. The leader of the event is Christie Kerr with an 8 under 64 leading all others by 3 strokes.
Michelle Wie was quoted as saying she had “two little cysts near her spine and a little disc bulge.” Little? Yikes! Hopefully little is correct and they will go away and she’ll be able to compete.
