Those who are on the top 25 of the money list at year's end are given PGA Tour memberships for the next season.

Champions Tour 2010 - TPC Tampa Bay :: Lutz, Florida, USA
LUTZ - When Tom Watson plays in events such as the Masters and British Open, the 60-year-old thanks the Champions Tour for the opportunity.
"I've said it a number of times, the Champions Tour is the only reason I'm still out here and competitive," Watson said Friday after posting a 4-under-par 67 in the first round of the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am at TPC Tampa Bay. "If I didn't have the competition of the Champions Tour, then I would have been history a long time ago in terms of the Masters and British Open."
Watson's 67 included six birdies and a double-bogey on a course he said would give PGA Tour players a run for their money.
"I am still competitive on courses like this," he said. "This is a tough golf course. If the kids played this golf course, they would have a tough time."
Watson's 67 has him and five others tied for fourth, two strokes behind leader Mark O'Meara.
"Playing this golf course is like going through a minefield," Watson said. "There are a lot of shots out there that you're faced with water. To keep it out of the water, which I did (Friday) with the exception of one drive (No. 4), is kind of the game plan - and I did pretty well."
Greens all the rave
Watson, a two-time champion at TPC Tampa Bay, had the course's new greens to thank, in part, for his 67.
The greens were replaced after last year's event, and Watson managed to sink a 50-foot putt on No. 8 and left a 60-footer "an inch dead in the heart" on No. 9.
"(The greens) are beautiful," Watson said. "They're great putting surfaces. They didn't change the contours - I haven't found anything different. But they're very smooth."
O'Meara, the first-round leader, used only 22 putts in his eight-birdie, two-bogey round.
"I didn't putt very well at Augusta last week," O'Meara said. "But I did a lot better (Friday) so that was nice. The golf course is in really good shape. The greens are in good shape, but they are firm. The scoring is not going to be quite as low because of that."
Brooks: Not ready for the tour
Former Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks, playing in a group with fellow Florida State University graduate Paul Azinger, said he had fun "telling some war stories" and was grateful to be picked up a few times by his partner, Tom Lehman.
"The pros really make us feel at home," Brooks said. "We do the best we can to stay out of the way. Once I got in the groove, I hit a few good shots. But by no means am I ready to cut it as a professional golfer."
Brooks sent his best wishes to former NFL receiver Jerry Rice, who said he has turned professional and was playing in this weekend's Nationwide Tour stop in Northern California before missing the cut Friday. Rice entered with a sponsor's exemption and is the tournament host.
"Those guys are no slouch," Brooks said. "Hopefully, Jerry will have fun and the guys will welcome him out there."
Brooks and Lehman finished the first round 8 under, good for a tie for third place. The top 16 teams after today's second round advance to Sunday's final round.
Here are numbers no pro golfer wants beside his name: 83-76, for 17- over-par 159. But that's what Jerry Rice, who will go into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, shot at the Fresh Express Classic in Hayward, Calif. this week in his debut as a professional golfer.
Rice's rude introduction to pro golf calls to mind an incident at a dinner party in Toronto a while ago that bears on the dreams some pro athletes have of morphing into successful pro golfers. A decent player for whom money wasn't a problem wanted to devote himself to golf with the goal of making it to the Champions Tour. He was seeking advice.
It's not right to crush a dream. But it also seemed important to balance his dream—his fantasy? —against reality.
“If you do make it, and that's a gigantic ‘if,' you'll be playing against golfers named Tom Watson, Tom Kite, and Hale Irwin,” I told him, trying not to sound discouraging but failing mightily. “Still, you can afford the effort and you have the time. Go for it.”

The Pioneer-Press reports that about 50 players are
staying in low-key private homes close to Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., instead of luxury hotels or over-the-top mansions.
"And despite rumors about top golfers trucking in their own furniture or installing a Jacuzzi at some lucky local's home, the volunteer in charge of housing for the tournament said the guys aren't divas," the Pioneer-Press story says. "The only special request was for a crib."
So what about other local hotels looking to cash in on the event? Hotels such as the Grand Hotel and the Chambers Hotel in downtown Minneapolis are sold-out or nearly sold out thanks to PGA and the other big event in town, Macy's Glamorama fashion extravaganza, the story says.

Lifetime achievement award for Ballesteros
Seve Ballesteros, the most charismatic figure in European Tour golf history, is to be honoured at the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year ceremony on Sunday.
The 51 year old Spanish great, who has been battling a brain tumour since collapsing at Madrid Airport in October last year, will receive the Lifetime Achievement award. The award celebrates those who have made a significant contribution to sport and demonstrable success in their relevant sport throughout their careers.
The youngest of four brothers who are all golf professionals, Ballesteros first made his mark on the world stage when, aged just 19, he was runner-up to Johnny Miller in the 1976 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
A chip-and-run he played between bunkers on the final hole to tie with Jack Nicklaus for second demonstrated a gift for the game that has had few equals.Ballesteros was the youngest ever winner of the European Order of Merit title that season, and it took him just three years to lift the Claret Jug at Royal Lytham.
That was the first of three Open Championships as well as two Masters Tournament titles. No European had triumphed at Augusta until Ballesteros did it in 1980 and it opened the floodgates - Nick Faldo won three times, Bernhard Langer and Jose Maria Olazabal twice and Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam once each.
His influence on The Ryder Cup was just as great. At the suggestion of Nicklaus the contest was changed in 1979 so that players from Europe rather than just Great Britain and Ireland were eligible and Ballesteros made his debut that year.
Nobody displayed more passion for the event and, with Olazabal, Ballesteros formed a truly formidable partnership. In 15 games they won 11 and lost only two.
Ballesteros reigned as World Number One for 61 weeks between 1986 - the year the rankings were introduced - and 1989 and he was an obvious choice as Ryder Cup Captain when the match was taken to Spain for the first time in 1997.He was the dominant personality all week at Valderrama, waking assistant Miguel Angel Jimenez up in the middle of the night with ideas.
Ballesteros got the result he wanted against a side which included Tiger Woods for the first time. Woods was beaten by Italian Costantino Rocca in the singles.
Nobody has entertained golf fans more, and just as Arnold Palmer had "Arnie's Army" to cheer him on so Ballesteros had "Seve's Soldiers".
The messages of support he has received since his collapse have meant an incredible amount to him.He has undergone four operations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and has made it his goal to be at St Andrews - scene of his greatest win in 1984 - for next year's Open Championship.Ballesteros has even talked of playing in the championship as a thank-you to his fans.

Players should back Woods - Daly
American golfer John Daly has hit out at his fellow professionals who have failed to support Tiger Woods during his recent personal problems.
World number one Woods has been subject to lurid press allegations about his private life following a car accident at his home in Florida last month.
Daly said: "I wish them [the Woods family] the best. I'm not too happy with what some players have said.
"Golf needs him. Because of Tiger is why we're playing for so much money."
Woods, 33, is one of the richest and most successful sportsmen in the world, and has won 71 professional titles in his career so far, including 14 majors. He's a great athlete. He'll figure it out Jack Nicklaus But his reputation has come under fire after a string of newspaper revelations about affairs with a string of women since Woods released a statement admitting to "transgressions" and apologising to his family.
He has not been seen in public since the high-profile car accident, even missing his own tournament in California earlier this month. The rumours about his personal life have made front-page news across the world and fellow pro Jesper Parnevik, who introduced Woods to his wife Ellin, has led the criticism.
"We probably thought he was a better guy than he is [back] then," said Swede Parnevik, who admitted he felt he should offer Mrs Woods an apology for making the introduction in the first place.
But Daly, who is no stranger to the gossip columns himself, has been vocal in his support of Woods. "Golf needs Tiger more than any other player that's ever played golf," he said. "With his record and the way he plays, he just brings people out and he raises the bar for all of us to play better golf as well when he's out there.
"Tiger is currently and still the biggest name in golf and there is no golfer out there worthy to carry his bags. If he doesn't play in 2010 it will be bad for the sport in general. tonytorra Woods's record of 14 majors wins puts him just four behind Jack Nicklaus, who is the most successful major winner with 18. Nicklaus said what was happening to Woods was a family concern, and he deserved some privacy from the public eye.
"Our public is pretty forgiving at times," said Nicklaus. "Time usually heals all wounds. I think the hardest thing is obviously his family. That's a private matter for him and his family."
"He's a great athlete. He'll figure it out."
