Didn't anyone learn from Van de Velde?

Didn't anyone learn from Van de Velde?

What was Robert Garrigus thinking yesterday???

Up three strokes with one to play at the St. Jude Classic, he hits a horrendous tee shot dead center into the lake. Long story short, one debacle led to the next, he makes a triple bogey, and has to go into a playoff where he lost on the first hole.

Of course, it's easy for anyone to say what he should have done after the fact but all he had to do was hit 5 iron, 5 iron, wedge, two putt, and he wins by two strokes, earns a million bucks, and earns his card for next year. Why is that so difficult?

It brings back a certain memory of the biggest disaster in golf history by one Jean Van De Velde.
