After calling his first round 75 "horrific", Phil Mickelson came back strong with the tournament low round of 66. After nearly chipping in for birdie at number one, he then birdied 2, 3, 4, 6, and the very difficult 8th before making bogey at the 9th. His front nine 31 got him back to even par for the tournament and he went on to shoot 35 on the back. He is only two off the lead held by Graeme McDowell.
He looked in complete control of his game and if he keeps it up over the weekend, he will finally get to raise the trophy.
