Description:
The 8th hole of the Kintyre course, a quite short par 4 is awe-inspiring. There is a blind approach shot to a green, nestling in a rocky cove and offers spectacular views across the Mull of Kintyre. The tee shot should be hit just left of the stone cairn in the fairway and to the top of the hill. This will offer players the best possible view of the green. From here it is downhill to a green that also runs away from you. It is best to land the ball short of the green and thread it between the two pot bunkers. The Kintyre course at Turnberry is Donald Steel’s recreation of the old Arran course, which was originally laid out in 1909. Just like the world-famous Ailsa, the Arran was re-built by Philip Mackenzie Ross after the ravages of the Second World War and for many years it provided an excellent accompaniment to the Ailsa. In 2004 the Kintyre Course was used to host the Open Championship Final Qualifying.
