Description:
The tenth is the second of the two world famous signature holes of Turnberry’s Ailsa Course. It is a very long par 4 with a slight dogleg left. From the back tees, a 200-yard carry is required to a narrow fairway. If that is not enough, even more trouble awaits players in the middle of the fairway in the shape of two pot bunkers and a third bunker further down on the right side of the fairway. The famous island bunker protects the approach and the green will gather shots from the right-hand side. In advance of The 2009 Open Championship, Turnberry’s Ailsa Course has undergone a number of adjustments designed to ensure that, as one of Britain’s finest links, it continues to challenge modern professionals. The redesign of the tenth hole was intended to bring the coastline further into play and create more of a risk/reward shot for players looking to cut off the corner of the fairway. Today it requires at least a 200-yard carry off the Championship Tee. Hole 10 of Turnberry’s Ailsa Course is constantly regarded as one of the best and most famous golf holes in the world and it is listed as one of the 1001 golf holes you must play before you die by Jeff Barr.
