Description:
Hole 16 is a very long par 4 hole with a slight dogleg right. It is just a superb hole! It is the only hole at Turnberry’s Ailsa course where a water hazard crosses the fairway. The water hazard is not wide, but right in front of the green and due to the steep banks intimidating. The 16th hole has undergone major redesign for The Open Championship 2009. A new tee has been added and the fairway rerouted, making the formerly straight hole a left to right dogleg. The old 16th fairway bunker presents a hazard on the right and a new bunker has been added on the left. A deep crater created on the right adds further challenge to the tee shot. The burn now presents a greater lateral hazard for the approach shot. Hole 16 of Turnberry’s Ailsa Course is listed as one of the 1001 golf holes you must play before you die by Jeff Barr.

Unfortunately, I was not able to make my own pictures when I was playing the Ailsa course in September 2009. Various pictures can be found on the internet.
