Description:
Hole 17 is the very last hole from Turnberry’s Ailsa Course. I will not bore you with more holes from Turnberry, but it such a great course…. Hole 17 is a little bit underrated from my perspective. It is such a great par 5! It is the only par 5 on the Ailsa from the Tournament (white) and the Trophy (yellow) tees. Hole 7 plays as a par 5 from the Championship tees and holes 5, 7, 8 and 14 play as par 5’s from the Ladies (red) tees. Hole 17 is a hole where a bit of power will make it a soft par 5 and a birdie and yet for the shorter hitter it is actually a difficult par 5 to have to lay up into a very awkward spot short of the treacherous bunkers. This makes the hole very interesting. The fairway is semi blind and for the second shot two cross bunkers have to be considered which are 45 yards short of the green. The fairway is narrowing and the green is difficult and very well protected by four bunkers.
